AVATAR, THE LAST AIRBENDER

Working on Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender was a career highlight — not just because of the beloved source material, but because of the deep creative collaboration it required across departments and vendors.

As part of the Previsualization Layout team, I worked closely with Showrunner/Director Jabbar Raisani, VFX Supervisor Marion Spates, and Previs Supervisor Dirk Valk to design and refine key sequences before they went into full production. My responsibility was to translate the script and creative vision into cinematic, shot-by-shot layouts that balanced storytelling beats with the technical requirements for filming.

Beyond layout, I supported outsourced vendors by providing guidance on shot builds, ensuring continuity, clarity, and alignment with the show’s visual language. I also collaborated with editors to fine-tune pacing and shot order, helping to tell the story in the most compelling way possible before cameras rolled.

Previs on a project of this scope was essential — it allowed the team to experiment with camera movement, blocking, and visual effects integration early, ensuring that bending sequences and large-scale action set pieces could be executed seamlessly on set and in post.

The final series captures the heart of the original animated world while delivering the scope, spectacle, and cinematic weight of a live-action epic.
