NBA Chinese New Year Commercial

NBA Chinese New Year Ad

When the NBA set out to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a special global spot, I was brought on to help bring the director’s vision to life. The concept was a playful nod to Zhezhi, the traditional Chinese art of paper folding, with origami-style recreations of iconic NBA players.
I started by building a Previsualization (Previs) to map out the timing, pacing, and rhythm of the edit so the director could lock in the creative flow early. From there, I handled Look Development for the paper-folded characters, refining the textures and folds until they felt handcrafted yet dynamic.
I also contributed to the final visual effects, including the fireworks and the dramatic cloth tear in the closing shot — moments designed to leave viewers with a sense of celebration and energy.

Outcome
The ad went on to resonate worldwide, earning over 6 million views on YouTube and becoming a memorable highlight in my body of work for its blend of cultural homage and visual creativity.
